BREN Esports Disqualified from WCG 2023 for Wrong ID

A strange incident occurred in the WCG 2023 tournament for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, after the BREN Esports team from the Philippines had to be disqualified from the tournament due to a fairly trivial mistake: Entering the wrong ID number for their player!

This happened when BREN Esports faced Indonesian team Dewa United Esports in the WCG 2023 MLBB Open Qualifier. In the match, BREN Esports was one game ahead of Dewa United Esports and only needed one more win to advance to the next round.

Just before entering game 2, Dewa sued Bren Esports, because there was one Bren member who was considered to have violated the rules. One of Bren's players, Pheww, was considered to have entered the wrong ID in the registration process.

The WCG immediately took firm action against BREN Esports and gave a penalty in the form of disqualification. The decision immediately made coach Duckey from BREN Esports furious.

Duckey confirmed that Pheww entered the wrong ID, but it was only a 1-digit error, which Duckey considered not too crucial. He let out an emotional outburst on social media, going so far as to mock Dewa United Esports as a "scared little sh*t".

It is quite difficult to determine who is at fault in this case. Dewa United Esports' protest had a solid reason as it was in the rules that both parties had to agree on.

However, disqualifying BREN Esports just because of a trivial issue is also considered too much. WCG officials should bring together representatives from BREN Esports and Dewa United Esports in order to make a decision that is equally good for both teams.

Hopefully, this incident at WCG 2023 will not happen again in the future.
