Iran is reported to have banned Dota 2 in their country as of September 30, 2022. It’s the aftermath of the unrest that is currently engulfing the country due to protests and differences of opinion between the people and the ruling government.
After two weeks of protests and riots, Dota 2 and several other game titles are reportedly no longer accessible. This news was first conveyed by Kamyab Tizrø, a filmmaker, photographer, and Dota 2 player, through his personal Twitter post.
The ban comes after two weeks of protests, which initially sparked by the death of 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini. She is considered to have violated the hijab rules and strict dress code in the country. Her death sparked a wave of protests and riots that happened across Iran.
Iran's regime immediately moved to prevent public gatherings and shut down chat functions on any messaging services and social media to suppress more news about the country's problems to the outside world. Dota 2 is one of the banned games because it has the chat function.
Even though it could be dangerous, Kamyab Tizrø still reports on the condition of his country through the Dota 2 subreddit entitled "my death letter (probably)". Kamyab Tizrø posted two updates, including news regarding why Dota 2 was banned in Iran.
In another post, Kamyab Tizrø provides an update on the daily struggles of Iranians in the effort to “take back the Iran that we had 40 years ago”. The condition is that bad. Let’s pray for them, so that all the conflicts will be resolved as well and as quickly as possible.
