One of the major DOTA 2 competitions currently underway, the DOTA 2 Major, brought surprising news. This happened after BetBoom was caught cheating in a match against Tundra Esports.
BetBoom was caught doing Stream Snipe by watching the Twitch stream of their match from Russian streamer, Aleksandr "Nix" Levin. Even though watching any stream let alone Stream Snipe during the match is prohibited by tournament rules because they can "peek" and know the position of the enemy easily so that they can strategize.
The chronology of BetBoom being caught doing Stream Snipe happened when the game was on pause. At that time BetBoom player Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko, was caught watching the Twitch stream of Russian streamer Aleksandr "Nix" Levin.
In fact, the rule book clearly states that only Steam, DOTA 2, and TeamSpeak Running (a communication application similar to Discord) can be opened on a PC to compete.
As a result, the match that was previously won by BetBoom had to end with Tundra Esports winning. BetBoom was not disqualified, but instead had to drop to the lower bracket after they had previously won and earned an upper bracket position.
With this result, Tundra Esports who advanced to the upper bracket will face Team Liquid, while BetBoom will have to drop to the lower bracket and will have to fight Chinese team Azure Ray in the first round.
Because of this ridiculous behavior, BetBoom not only lost their upper bracket position, but also had to lose their DPC points so that they automatically lost their direct ticket to appear in DOTA 2's biggest competition, The International 2023.
BetBoom's cheating incident also shocked the Dota 2 community because this is the second time they have done something "strange" in an official match.
As we know, previously in 2022 BetBoom had also caused a stir with the incident of writing the letter "Z" in chat all in the middle of the match. As a result, his team at that time Virtus.pro, had to lose a place in division 1 of the DPC.
Well, hopefully there will be no similar cheating things in the Major DOTA 2 event in the future, well!
