BOOM Esports made a surprising decision in the Dota 2 division, after The Hungry Beast decided to release Xepher from the roster, one week after the player was put on the inactive player list.
Kenny "Xepher" Deo is a professional Dota 2 esports player with unquestionable skills. Together with Whitemon, Xepher became the first Indonesian player to play in The International, when he defended T1 at TI10.
After leaving T1, the player who went viral with his "Mama, aku di TI" or "Mama, I'm at TI" quote joined BOOM Esports, which was eyeing a spot at The International 12 in the first quarter of 2023. Unfortunately, Xepher's presence didn't have much of a positive impact, with BOOM Esports having to bounce back and forth between Division 1 and Division 2 in the 2023 DPC SEA.
At the climax, BOOM Esports decided to change Xepher's status to inactive player on July 22, 2023. Not long after, The Hungry Beast officially released Xepher from the roster on August 2, 2023.
With Xepher off, the BOOM Esports roster is left with three active players consisting of Natsumi, Yopaj, and xNova. Based on Xepher's farewell post, BOOM Esports didn't take long to get new players to complete their squad.
The rumor is that BOOM Esports will fill the roster void by targeting BoBoKa (ex. Team Aster), as well as asking Coach Mushi to participate in The International 2023 SEA Qualifier.
If the rumors are true, this is the first time BOOM Esports will play without a single player from Indonesia. Because, Fbz as the only player owned by BOOM Esports with Indonesian citizenship is on loan to Team Secret for the rest of the 2023 season.
Would BOOM Esports be able to compete for a spot in The International 2023 with their non-Indonesian roster? Let's wish The Hungry Beast all the best.
