A big drama happened in the Valorant SEA Games 2023 Grand Final between Indonesia and Singapore last night (10/5/23). In the second game when the score was 10-4 for Singapore, Indonesia suddenly filed an appeal because Singapore was caught doing a bug abuse from agent Cypher on the Split map.
The appeal was filed by Valorant Indonesia's assistant coach M. Rafi "Frostmind" Diandra after Kevin "Eeyore" Gunawan detected the utilization of the Cypher bug.
The bug utilized by Valorant Singapore in this event was in the form of Cypher's Spycam placement in the A Site of the Split map. This Spycam is invisible to the enemy, making it indestructible and able to see the enemy even when they are still at the A Entrance of the Base.
Of course this bug is very influential in competitive games because the Attacker team's rotation will be easily read and make the Defender team's rotation easier. Indonesia strongly opposed the unfair treatment from Singapore, so the match was abandoned for several hours.
A long debate between Valorant Indonesia, Valorant Singapore, and the SEA Games 2023 committee was inevitable. The SEA Games committee was confused because they did not know and actually questioned whether this (Cypher bug) was not allowed in the Indonesian competitive scene or not.
Singapore itself was almost decided to win by default because Indonesia refused to continue the match, before the SEA Games committee finally decided to give gold to both Singapore and Indonesia after a long process.
In the end, the 2023 SEA Games Esports Valorant number has two gold medalists: Singapore and Indonesia! There was no silver medalist in this event, and sportsmanship was upheld at the 2023 SEA Games.
Congratulations to all the winners, and here's hoping this doesn't happen again in future SEA Games.
