EternaLEnVy Retires, Ending His Career on Dota 2

EternaLEnVy has finally made the tough decision on his career as a Dota 2 pro player, after the player officially announced his retirement from competitive gaming for good, which eventually received a touching response from Dota 2 fans.

Jacky "EternaLEnVy" Mao was one of the most popular figures in the Dota 2 community for many years. The Canadian veteran became an important part of Dota 2 history through his risk-taking style of play.

Despite being based in North America, Envy has traveled the world and played for teams in different regions. Envy started his career as a Dota 2 pro player with Team No Tidehunter, and after that he often switched teams and regions to pursue achievements.

Envy's career peak occurred when he was in the European region, precisely when the player joined Team Secret. In that team, Envy won several Major titles, such as MLG World Finals, Nanyang Dota 2 Championship, and The Shanghai Major 2016.

Unfortunately, Envy has a performance problem that is considered inconsistent. Envy was never in doubt when it came to executing amazing plays, but due to his inconsistent nature, he kept moving between regions and teams for four years.

Envy suffered the same fate when he returned to North America to join Cloud9 in 2020. Envy failed to deliver for the team, leading to his decision to withdraw from the competitive scene in 2021.

Envy gave up on the professional path and began his new journey as a streamer. Envy also became an active member of the Dota 2 community through his streams, earning him sympathy from fans of the game once again.

However, the 31-year-old veteran could never leave his competitive spirit behind. Evidently, Envy always gives 100% focus to his games, and displays extremely hard-hitting high-level gameplay.

This leaves most viewers of Envy's live streams ignored. Envy himself has also admitted that streaming isn't for him because he doesn't like reacting and talking on his streams.

Nevertheless, EternaLEnVy's decision to retire from the professional Dota 2 scene still attracted sympathy from fans. Even other pro players also bid him farewell, one of them being The International champion with Alliance, Jonathan "Loda" Berg.

Envy has been away from the competitive scene since 2021, and now he's leaving it behind forever. Enjoy your retirement, EternaLEnVy!
