Team Spirit has officially withdrawn from the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 Dota 2 esports tournament, as health issues prevent the team from having a complete presence in Malaysia.
ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, the first Dota 2 esports tournament after The International 2023, is a tournament taking place in Malaysia on December 11-17, 2023 that will compete 12 teams and compete for a total prize pool of 1 million USD.
ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 directly invites four teams with the most consistent performance throughout 2023. Team Spirit as the champions of The International 2023 is definitely one of the teams invited to this tournament.
Unfortunately, bad news befell Team Spirit who clarified that some of their players needed to undergo medical observation. Korb3n, Team Spirit's manager, said that Mipohska et al. would have to miss ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, even though they didn't want to.
"After returning from the United States, some of our players will have to undergo medical examinations, which may be followed by treatment," Team Spirit wrote in their official statement.
In place of Team Spirit, ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 organizers will award an additional slot to the Western Europe region (WEU) as the "most competitive region by ranking". Teams who want to get the slot must pass the Closed Qualifiers.
In addition to WEU, the Eastern Europe region (EEU) also gets two slots for ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. Regions other than WEU and EEU only get one slot, including the Southeast Asia (SEA) region.
Despite Team Spirit's absence, ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 still presents great competition as there are still three other teams invited directly, namely Gaimin Gladiators (TI12 Runner-up), LGD Gaming, and Azure Ray.
ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 will be held in Malaysia on December 11-17, 2023.
